Where do I start to find a church?

Hi~ I'm looking for advice on what to look for before I go to every single church in my community trying to fit in. I am single with no kids, grew up Lutheran, but have strayed and am ready to start practicing faith again. I would like to find a church because its more worthwhile to me to have community instead of the "you don't have to go to church to believe" stuff that lazy Christians say. What should I be looking for in a church with an open mind and philosophy and that celebrating worship should be a happy event, not somber, which was what turned me off in the beginning. I'll say again, I am single, will be going alone most of the time, and don't need to feel anymore of an outcast because I'm not dragging the rest of my family with. Any advice to get back in the game is appreciated. Thank you.
