How long after the first time you get eyeglasses do you go for an eye test?

Ive been wearing glasses for 8months now, i was wondering when i should expect a letter from the opticians saying im due for an eye test, some people say 1 year but other say 2 years because that's when the prescription is until. i don't know what to listen to.
