I'm a high school student and want to become a surgeon, what steps should I take?
I'm going to become a junior in high school next year and have always wanted to become a cardiovascular surgeon when I grow up. Basically, my question is regarding what classes I should be taking, (I took and passed AP biology with an A+ and I'm taking Anat&Phys next year), how I should prep my college applications that would help further my chances of being accepted into a medical school, and most importantly some general advice. I've always admired surgeons for their skill and precision. I know this is a big goal with a lot of time that has to be invested, but I'm finally beginning to realize this is what I want to do and am willing to go through what is neccessary. I've never really understood the exact amount of schooling that had to be completed, so a quick answer would also be appreciated. I know this is a very vague question and I'm kind of pressed for time at the moment but a run-down of what I need to do, and I mean pretty much everything I need to do during/after high school, would be extremely helpful for me. Please if you have a good answer for me, don't "dumb it down" or "make it understandable for a child" because I know I have to grow up sometime and would like to be treated as professionals in the field do. I'm not trying to come off cocky but I really want to do this and a straight forward detailed response, would like I said, be very beneficial for me. If you have a minute or two, an answer would be fantastic. Thanks guys!
